6.8 magnitude earthquake in Elazig: 20 people lost their lives, 1015 injured

An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude occurred in Elazig Sivrice at 20.55. In the 6.8 earthquake, 16 people died in Elazig, 4 people died in Malatya and 1015 people were injured.

 

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sivrice district of Elazig. In the information given from the Twitter account of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), it was stated that an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude was recorded in Sivrice district at 20.55. The earthquake occurred at 6.75 kilometers depth of the earth.

Elazığ Sivrice-based earthquake was also felt in Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Malatya, Tunceli, Samsun, Tokat, Çorum, Sivas, Niğde, Kayseri Kırşehir, Trabzon, Ordu and Giresun.

 

After the earthquake, aftershocks of magnitude of 5.4 were recorded in Sivrice district at 21.08 hours and in Baskil district at 21.17 at 5.1 hours. The tremor in Sivrice occurred about 7.03 km from the ground and 10.62 km deep from the ground in Baskil.

 

 

 

AFAD: 20 PEOPLE LOSE LIVES, 1015 PEOPLE INJURED
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that 20 people died and 1015 people were injured in the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Sivrice district of Elazig, the epicenter.

In the statement made by AFAD, it was stated that after the earthquake in Sivrice, at 07.50, 11 shakes of 4 and above size occurred in the region and the total number of aftershocks was 228.

In the statement, which emphasized that 4 buildings were demolished in the city center of Elazig, and the search and rescue efforts of AFAD teams continued in the wreckage, it was stated that the search and search activities in Elazığ and the surrounding provinces are continuing, and those staying in the dormitories are taken to the sports halls.

The Kandilli Observatory revised the magnitude of the earthquake as 6.5 and its depth as 5.0 kilometers.

HEALTH MINISTER KOCA: THE NUMBER OF DEADS CAN INCREASE IN EARTHQUAKE
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said that the number of deaths in the Elazig-based earthquake increased to 19 in total, 4 in Doğanyol and 15 in Elazig, and this number could increase.

Minister Koca made a statement to the members of the press while making investigations in the region where the earthquake took place.

Stating that 4 people died in Doğanyol and 15 people in Elazığ, Koca stated that all of the 221 injured in Malatya were discharged except 5, and 50 of the 551 injured patients in Elazig continued their treatment.

Koca, “We have lost 19 citizens. We have 221 injured in Malatya and 551 in Elazig. We know that there are about 30 people living in Elazig, and the number of deaths may increase in the earthquake.”

WORKS CONTINUE IN ELAZIĞ
Search and rescue activities are continuing for 30 people who are stated to be under debris in Elazig. In the studies, 4 people, 1 of whom are children, have been rescued from the wreckage.

Provincial AFAD teams responded to the destroyed buildings in the city center, the statement said:

All surrounding provinces provide transportation to the region by land. All provinces and unions have been vigilant after the earthquake. AFAD President Mehmet Güllüoğlu noted that in a television program he participated in, there was no problem in communication in the earthquake region. Güllükolu said, “Currently, our teams continue to communicate with our mayors, governors in the region. Our teams started field scanning. Is there any destruction, anyone under the rubble, they are investigating this. ” Stating that the earthquake was felt in a wide geography, Güllüoğlu said, “It was felt in Sivrice and its surrounding districts. Our work is continuing now. We follow closely, ”he said.

Making a statement on the social media after the earthquake, Kerem Kınık, President of the Red Crescent, said, “Our citizens who feel the earthquake of Elazığ Sivrice should not enter their homes if they are damaged, do not try to take their belongings etc., they should listen carefully to the warnings coming from Afad and the Governorate. “Get well soon.”
